Deaf people have different sign languages in each country. Just as English is different from Spanish, international sign languages vary in syntax, grammar, and concepts. We have Ethiopian sign languages, Brazilian Sign Language, Chinese Sign Language, Austrian Sign Language and British Sign Language, etc but I am going to mention few so that you can have a better idea of what they are.

A Message to Nigerians on Peaceful Elections, 2015

Even after the postponement of the Nigerian general elections which was originally scheduled for February 14^th, 2015 to March 28^th, 2015 and It is now a day to election, which is the weekend we have been waiting for because we would have the opportunity to choose the leader we want. Please let us not take this opportunity lightly because how we use it could affect everything and everyone after. We expect everyone to vote on Saturday which is tomorrow and our voting guide is very simple.

 

If you love the way things are at the moment then vote TRANSFORMATION, but if you feel something is wrong with the nation then vote CHANGE but you can also try other political party. 

No matter what is being reported in the news, I believe that peace will reign in our land. I also believe we will have a better government, better leaders and a better nation. It may not be easy, it may cost us a lot but eventually, it will happen.

Finally, please say no to VIOLENCE on elections. In spite of over 250 languages we have in Nigeria, we are still ONE. I urge all Nigerians, from all religions, all ethnic groups in all regions to come together and keep Nigeria one. Wishing everyone GOODLUCK on elections.

Are Deaf people aggressive?

So many hearing people have a wrong perception or impression about Deaf people, they think Deaf people are aggressive, even in schools, lecturers and professors lecture that Deaf people are aggressive by nature, it doesn’t stop there, even in the markets, streets and work places, etc. People believe that Deaf people are aggressive because of their past experiences. Even Researchers are supporting the fact that Deaf people are aggressive to the point that when i, myself come across some people, when they find out that i am Deaf, they would whisper "hey, this boy is Deaf, take it easy with him before he bursts".

The Media should learn not to label Deaf people as "Deaf and DUMB"

We can see that a newspaper named “The SUN - Voice of the Nation” used the words "deaf & DUMP", that's very disturbing, this kind of ignorance has been manifesting from the Media for a long time and yet they call themselves editors and or journalists. Actually the correct word is "dumb" which was later used as "mute" but now generally, it is not acceptable. Instead of just mentioning"Deaf couple" or "hearing impaired couple". The Media have been using wrong words for Deaf people. The status of our society Nigeria today is that they have wrong perceptive about Deaf people.

The right word to use: "PERSONS WITH DISABILTIES"

When one uses the word "physically challenged", it usually excludes Deaf, Blind and others from this category. Physically challenged are referring to those who are on wheelchairs but nowadays, they are always using the word "physically challenged" and thinking it is referring to people with all kinds of disabilities which is very wrong.

A physical disability is one that affects a person's mobility. A person with a physical disability may need to use some sort of equipment for assistance with mobility. It also includes people who have lost their limbs or who, because of the shape of their body is also known as physically challenged.
