As a reader, I came across a book, and it hit me hard, no wonder the book's title is "Oseola McCarty wake up the world," written by Barbara Diamond, illustrated by Dan Brown.
You know there are two kinds of people in the world: Givers and takers, the takers may eat better, but givers sleep better. I am very sure Oseola McCarty slept better. As a low-income job, she has given more than one hundred and fifty thousands dollars ($150,000) to sponsor a lot of students to the University of Southern Mississippi, till today, she is still the most famous benefactor.
Not that she was the first or last person to sponsor students to the university, it was because of the way it was happening, all her life, she washed and ironed clothes, she saved her money all the time, and she will only buy what she needs, and by the time she was 86 years old, she had saved over $280,000. She decided to use most of her savings to sponsor some students every year to the University of Southern Mississipi near her home.
Her gifts woke up the world; they were surprised by how much she saved and how much she gave away. One interesting thing about her was that after the world has woken up by her act and gave her a lot of awards, she said she was not surprised at all, she said: "we all want to feel good about ourselves."
MORAL OF THE LESSON: NO MATTER HOW POOR YOU ARE, YOU CAN STILL GIVE, IT CHANGES ONE'S LIFE. DONT BE GREEDY!
